It works flawlessly here on openSUSE with a KF6 Plasma desktop. The single/double-click setting from the desktop is applied to digiKam at runtime.

Are you using Gnome Desktop and/or the digiKam AppImage?

the desktop is Plasma 6. Digikam automatically install during Fedora upgrade to 42. Not appimage.

Dolphin works as expected.
Comment 4 rob.dyck 2025-05-04 17:52:27 UTC
So I checked again. Before when I opened Digikam I got a list of files on the left. Now I am not seeing the list. However Showfoto does show the list on the left and it requires a double click to open a file.

Now I am confused because I didn't see the file list when I opened Digikam. How does one browse the file system in Digikam without specifying things like albums or tags, etc?

With digiKam, you have to specify a path to a collection in the settings. This path is then read into a database, and you can then see albums, etc. Unlike showFoto, digiKam doesn't list a file system directly. You should first read the digiKam manual to understand the concept of a DAM.

We explicitly configured double-clicking for folder selection in showFoto. However, I also believe it should follow the system settings.

Here's the link to the digiKam manual: https://docs.digikam.org/en/index.html

I set about trying to learn a bit more. I mostly keep photos on a remote file system. There was an collection/album at $HOME/Picures. I added my remote collection and deleted the one at Pictures. Digikam now crashes on start up. Is Pictures coded in?
