Description Ellie 2025-05-02 12:20:41 UTC
SUMMARY

The system tray has some accessibility issues for me, which is why I commonly disable it. The main reason is that the control over what's visible or not is a mess, and there is no white list mode. This means however that changing screen brightness at leas without special keyboard shortcuts seems to be unavailable, because there doesn't seem to be a different alternate dialog available to the system tray. For example, searching "brightness" in the system settings only shows the delayed dimming of the power settings, but not the current in the moment screen brightness slider.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Disable system tray
2. Open system settings
3. Try to find "brightness" setting for screen

OBSERVED RESULT

There is no in-the-moment brightness setting. Only the dimming setting for power saving after inactivity appears to be available, which isn't the same thing.

EXPECTED RESULT

There is a brightness setting in the system settings that is easy to find.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 6.2.4 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE; supported versions are 5.27. (LTS), and 6.3 (non-LTS) or newer. Please upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one.

If you need support for Plasma 6.2.4, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel free to re-open this bug report.

It also affects 6.3.4.

In Plasma 6.4, there's a brightness slider on the Display & Monitor page.
