*** If you're not sure this is actually a bug, instead post about it at https://discuss.kde.org If you're reporting a crash, attach a backtrace with debug symbols; see https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports Please remove this comment after reading and before submitting - thanks! *** SUMMARY Certain games stutter (and I know this isn't a game or system issue as it wasn't doing this before updating to 6.3.4) and when you alt+tab out of the stuttering game my screen goes black and everything crashes and I'm presented with a kwin_wayland crash report. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Kerbal Space program or Insurgency Sandstorm, suffer from stutters 2. Alt+tab 3. Entire desktop crashes, everything closes, kwin_wayland crash reported OBSERVED RESULT Black screen, everything closes, eventually everything restarts EXPECTED RESULT Not to crash SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Fedora Linux 41 KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0 Qt Version: 6.8.2 Kernel Version: 6.14.4-200.fc41.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core Processor Memory: 30.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060/PCIe/SSE2 Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060/PCIe/SSE2 Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Product Name: B650M C V2-Y1 System Version: -CF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Here is the pastebin that is separated by game of the crash report information: https://pastebin.com/5YrrhFZz
My apologies, I forgot to remove the top part of the report :(
Update I tried launching and play insurgency again. I alt+tabbed out of the game and then this time my plasmashell crashed. Here is the crash report: https://pastebin.com/UVePnHy9
Update The plasma renderer notification showed up on my panel. I've never seen this before nor have used it. Google seems to suggest both rendering backend and render loop should be automatic, but mine is defaulting to Software for rendering backend and automatic for render loop. I'm not sure if I should change this or leave it alone. The notification will not go away.
The crash backtrace indicates that the problem is in the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Please report this issue to the NVIDIA folks, either by sending an email to linux-bugs@nvidia.com or making a post at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-graphics/linux. It would be helpful to the NVIDIA developers if you could run `nvidia-bug-report.sh` and attach the resulting file in your report. Thanks!
