Description slackfan 2025-04-27 08:53:09 UTC
SUMMARY

It seems there is only the ability to edit the current/latest screenshot but no previous one. When documenting features and taking screenshots for that, it is more strait forward to take the screenshots first and highlight the important parts later on instead of doing this screenshot by screenshot.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take screenshot A and save it
2. Take another screenshot B
3. Attempt to edit screenshot B in Spectacle

OBSERVED RESULT

Surprised eyes, I fail to find the feature :)

EXPECTED RESULT

It would be nice to have some preview of screenshots taken before which allows to select them for editing within Spectacle.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma:
KDE Plasma Version: no-idea, this is openSuse Tumbleweed, so thery latest for the moment.
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0

Hi - just to clarify the feature request, what would you anticipate to be unique about Spectacle offering such a feature, that would be different from going to the Screenshots folder using Gwenview and editing there?

Hello John,

Gwenview lacks the advanced screenshot editing tools Spectacle provides. There are no arrows, numberers, highlighters or blurring tools available in Gwenview. If there is a possibility to enable these there, the request would be satisfied indeed, but to my understanding these are absent there. If I am wrong, there might be a usability issue in Gwenview (as I fail to find them).

I am not asking for sophisticated browsing capabilities, just something like a back and a forth button allowing to scroll through the screenshots in Spectacle would be sufficient.

The tools mentioned there are each available in the "Annotate" feature of Gwenview, under the Image Operations section of the sidebar - if you take a look there, does that generally cover the features you're looking for?

I would never ever have found that, it's even a dedicated modal dialog/window! Using German i18n the button called "Annotations" is labeled "Anmerkungen" which re-translates as "Comments". And that made me think about Exif-Data or similar.

Thanks, this allows me to do, what I want! If you do not intend to make that ability more obvious, I believe we are complete.

I know this is taking things in a very different direction, but, in your opinion is there a more appropriate word for that feature that could be used in German? This Bugzilla instance is also used to report issues folks observe with i18n/translations, so perhaps this should end up being a request for a tweaked word if it would better indicate what the feature is :-)

I really appreciate your input, it helped me doing what I need. To answer your question: I would simply go with "Weitere Werkzeuge" (translates "Further operations").

Sounds good, I'll reassign this to the i18n product in Bugzilla and let that team offer their thoughts when possible.

Thanks!
