I've been experiencing this issue for quite some time, but I could never record it, and the few times I've noticed when dragging I couldn't screenshot it happening because of Bug 495825 The illusion moves as a move the actual file, most of the time it was positioned diagonally to the actual file.

Created attachment 180980 [details] Managed to capture this "illusionary duplicate" issue. Step to reproduce: Try to drag an item around the desktop. Result: Once in a blue moon an illusionary duplicate will appear, just like in this video.

There have been a lot of fixes for desktop icon issues recently; Fernando, can you still reproduce this one in Plasma 6.4.4 or later? Thanks!

Seems like Plasma's desktop simply can't handle an item being dragged while the item itself is refreshed.
Rubberband selection also glitches if it's being used when a file spawns on the desktop from a timed download.
