Description tedheims 2025-04-18 20:38:26 UTC
***
I have a number of files in a number of different folders. It would be soooo nice to have a search function when trying to attach a file. Currently, we need to know exactly where the file is so we can go and find the file to attach. It would be nice to be able to simply use a search function to find the file, then attach, similar to simply going to Dolphin and using the search function there, without attaching anything.

Hi - could you please let us know which specific KDE application this feature request is for? (KMail, perhaps?)
Comment 2 tedheims 2025-04-21 16:45:30 UTC
Well, Dolphin in particular. For example, let's say I want to attach a file to an email, and it's in one of my many folders in Dolphin, which are designated by year, but I'm not quite sure which folder. When attempting to attach the file, I can't just simply do a search for the file during the attachment. Currently, I have to do the search in Dolphin beforehand, find which folder it's in, then go back to attach and look for the file in the folder I just searched for before attaching. Perhaps to put it more succinctly, there is no search function in Dolphin when trying to attach a file from therein. The search function is only available when searching Dolphin without trying to attach a file. Thanks for reaching out and for your help in this matter.

Thanks, I think I'm understanding where you're going now - on the technical side, the "File Open" dialog isn't the same as the full-on Dolphin file manager, which is where my confusion was coming from :-)

Merging this in with the existing feature request for searching in the component that provides those dialog boxes. Thanks!
