Description harderqharder 2025-04-18 00:16:29 UTC
SUMMARY

If I set avif or gif (animated) images as my wallpaper, it will start memory leaking right away until all of my RAM space is filled and my system become unresponsive. I am pretty sure this is a memory leak because once I reset my wallpaper to a static image, the memory growth stops.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set avif or gif image to wallpaper in the KDE setting
2. Check the memory usage (e.g. via htop)

OBSERVED RESULT
The memory usage immediate goes up once I set the wallpaper to avif or gif, and eat up all my 32G Ram in few minutes

EXPECTED RESULT
The memory should not go up in this extreme amount and my system should stay responsive

Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux archlinux 6.14.2-arch1-1
