Description Patrick Silva 2025-03-25 14:09:34 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open Date & Time KCM
2. check or uncheck "Set date and time automatically"
3. click on "Apply" button - password dialog shows up
4. enter your password to confirm the change
5. change "Set date and time automatically" setting again
6. click on "Apply" button - password dialog shows up
7. cancel the password dialog this time - "Unable to change NTP settings" message shows up, close it
8. change "Set date and time automatically" setting again
9. click on "Apply" button

OBSERVED RESULT
the KCM applied the change done in the step 8 without asking for password

This will be rendered moot once distros follow the recommendations at https://community.kde.org/Distributions/Packaging_Recommendations#Polkit_configuration, which offers a way better UX. I think we should focus on that.
