SUMMARY

I have enabled both the option to remember the last session and the option to remember the “view style” for each folder. Normally, new folders are displayed ordered by name (A-Z, with folders first). However, for some reason, when I set this ordering option for the Downloads folder, after closing and reopening Dolphin, these settings are forgotten, and the items in the Downloads folder are shown grouped and ordered by modification date. This behaviour occurs only in the Downloads folder. There is no .directory file inside.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable options "remember the last session" and "remember the “view style” for each folder".
2. Use icon view
3. In Download folder, order file by name (A-Z, with folders first).
4. Close and open again Dolphin

OBSERVED RESULT

The files in Download folder are again ordered by modification date and grouped (As per default of Download folder when enabling remember the “view style” for each folder)

EXPECTED RESULT

The files should be still ordered by name and not grouped.

The exact same thing happens in my home folder exclusively. Having a specific view setting (which I've had continuously) of Sort by Name, A-Z, Folders First, causes on reloads to enable group view, sort by date, Z-A, Folders First disabled. However, I found a temporary workaround which is that enabling Hidden Files Last doesn't trigger this reset. No other directory appears affected.

I am running KDE neon and this was a problem with both Dolphin 24.12.2 and 24.12.3. I assumed this was related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=495878 but it appears not to be.

Hi - I'm also using Fedora KDE 41, and if I add to Step 3 of your Steps to Reproduce "Uncheck Show in Groups", then I can reproduce this.

I don't know if it's relevant, but when this bug triggers - but not during a normal start-up of Dolphin - running dolphin from the terminal immediately displays this message:

org.kde.dolphin: Could not load default global viewproperties

I, too, have had this behavior when opening my Downloads folder for the last 3 or 4 weeks. One thing to note, is that this only appears to be the case when the Downloads folder is set to show thumbnails/file previews.

Disabling the file preview in the view settings makes the folder at least remember the view settings, as soon as I re-enable the previews, the Downloads folder will revert to sorting and grouping the folder by date.
