Description Redjard 2025-03-05 19:21:55 UTC
SUMMARY
The area of pinned vs. non-pinned icons appears to be determined incorrectly when icons are not grouped.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add "Icons-Only Task Manager" to a panel
2. Configure it to "Group: Do not group"
3. Pin say 3 programs
4. Open a lot of instances of those programs
5. Try reordering them in the task-bar

OBSERVED RESULT
Any of the icons representing windows can be dragged, but the animation stops at spot 4 in this case, and when released the icon will always shuffle to that spot.
In effect, to achieve an order, it has to be assembled right to left by placing the right most icons then dropping more left ones pushing the intended order outwards from the area they can be dropped in.

Another effect (likely cause by the same problem) is that non-pinned program's icons can be dragged into the pinned area up to the mentioned area of (here) 3 icons.

EXPECTED RESULT
I can release the pinned windows anywhere in the pinned area.
The non-pinned windows can only be shuffled in the non-pinned region.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Gentoo 2025-03-04
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0 (?)
Qt Version: qtbase 6.8.2-r2 (?)
(kinfo is not working for me, but I don't think the version is relevant)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have observed this in 5.27 and 6.2 over the last 2 years, it has likely been around for even longer.
I have seen this in Gentoo and the kubuntu repo on Mint.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 6.2.5 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE; supported versions are 5.27. (LTS), and 6.3 (non-LTS) or newer. Please upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one.

If you need support for Plasma 6.2.5, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel free to re-open this bug report.

I tested this on two additional systems, the current testing and unstable live images.

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-52-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz
Memory: 23.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor 1: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620
Graphics Processor 2: NV138

Operating System: KDE neon Testing Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-52-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz

Graphics Processor 2: NV138

The multiple-years-standing bug has not in fact been suddenly noticed and resolved in the last 4 months.

My steps for reproduction from the booted live-image:
1. Open firefox (the right most pinned program)
2. Open a second window (ctrl+n) and minimize it
3. Open a third window and leave it open
4. Right click Icons-Only Task Manager to open its settings
5. On the Behavior tab, set "Group: Do not group"
6. Apply

7. Drag the right most icon, the third firefox window, and release it even more right
The minimized window will now be the right most one.
Try dragging either open window to the right most position, it won't work.
