Description Timwi 2025-02-25 22:08:53 UTC
Add an option to allow the user to use the familiar OS-native File Open dialog, esp. when adding files to the Project Bin.

I’ve marked this as “major” because I think it’s the easiest way to address the following major issue:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Project Bin, right-click and choose “Add Clip or Folder”.
2. Navigate to a folder that contains thousands of files.

OBSERVED RESULT

Kdenlive completely locks up and is no longer usable.

EXPECTED RESULT

User should be able to select a file the way they’re used to from all other applications on their OS.

In my case, the OS is Windows. Please let me use the normal Windows File Open dialog that is common to all applications.

Yes, this is something user asked in the past as well. Maybe in the setting we can have a tick to switch between OS native file manager and the KF-media browser.
But the KF-media browser has functions which the OS native file manager doesn't have. See here: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/project_and_asset_management/media_browser.html -> point 9 & 10

I change this bug to wishlist.
