Description Fernando Marcelino Muniz 2025-02-24 18:46:10 UTC
I've noticed that it's only possible to have animated wallpapers with unofficial plugins.
Such feature is very useful for preventing burn-in, especially with the panel set to auto-hide.

I'm requesting an official implementation of animated wallpapers.

This is worth considering

A few built-in animated wallpapers would be greatly needed to avoid burn-in, especially with so many OLED TVs these days!
A few built-in animated screensavers the same.
Maybe the same animated wallpapers can be used as screensavers too.

Besides the fact that they are much required for screens that can suffer from burn-ins, they are nice to have for other screens too.

The wallpaper already accepts animated image files like animated WebPs and GIFs. 1st-party animated video wallpapers were rejected in the recent past.

But regardless, what you're asking for this isn't actually useful for preventing screen burn-in when applied to the desktop, since the wallpaper will be covered up by windows and panels 99.9% of the time. To prevent burn-in, what you want is a color scheme with a pure black backgrounds, then you want to use a very aggressive screen locking timeout, and then you want to set up your lockscreen to be like a screensaver, by giving it an animated or slideshow background and disabling the clock.
