Description hbr 2025-02-14 07:59:36 UTC
SUMMARY:

The audio indicator gets placed on application icons that are not actually playing audio and on all tabs of Firefox, even tho not all of them play audio.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Flatpak related:
Run an application / game that plays audio in the Flatpak version of bottles.

Result:
The bottles icon gets the audio indicator and not the application / game actually playing the audio. Additionally if you open other Flatpak applications after that they also get the the audio indicator even tho they are not playing any audio.

Chromium / Electron related:
Run an Electron based application playing audio and open Chromium after that.

Result:
The Chromium icon also gets the audio indicator even tho it is not playing any audio.

Firefox related:
Play audio in a Firefox tab / Picture-in-Picture window and then click on the icon to open the list.

Result:
All tabs / windows of that Firefox instance are marked as playing audio even tho not all of them are. The audio indicator also seems to disappear from the task manager after opening the list once.

EXPECTED RESULT:
The audio indicator is only added to the applications that are actually playing audio. Otherwise it is pretty useless.

This is a combination of multiple issues.

> Run an Electron based application playing audio and open Chromium after that.
> The Chromium icon also gets the audio indicator even tho it is not playing any audio.
This is bug 472539.

> The bottles icon gets the audio indicator and not the application / game actually playing the audio.
> Additionally if you open other Flatpak applications after that they also get the the audio indicator
> even tho they are not playing any audio.
This is bug 463356.

> All tabs / windows of that Firefox instance are marked as playing audio even tho not all of them are
This is bug 375943.

Since we can't multi-dupe, I'm going to arbitrarily mark this as a duplicate of Bug 472539.
