Created attachment 178279 [details] No Window Previews on Hover After upgrading to Plasma 6.3 on Fedora 40, the Icons-Only Task Manager no longer shows window previews when hovering over an application icon. This issue is specific to Wayland—previews work correctly when using an X11 session. Tested it on other distros(on VM: fedora 40&41, opensuse tumbleweed), it only affects Fedora 40 Wayland Session specifically. [and task switcher(alt+tab) overview of window works fine] Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log into a Wayland session on Fedora 40 with Plasma 6.3. 2. Open window of any application (e.g., Firefox, Dolphin). 3. Hover over the application's icon in the Icons-Only Task Manager on the panel. 4. Expected behavior: Small window previews should appear. 5. Observed behavior: No previews are shown, only logo of application appears. Expected Behavior: Window previews should be displayed when hovering over an app in the Icons-Only Task Manager, similar to how it works in X11. Actual Behavior: No window previews appear; only application logo is displayed. SYSTEM INFORMATION: Distro: Fedora 40 (fully updated) Plasma Version: 6.3 Window Manager: KWin (Wayland) Kernel: Linux 6.12.11-100.fc40.x86_64 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4600H (12) @ 3.00 GHz GPU 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile / Max-Q [Discrete] GPU 2: AMD Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series [Integrated] Manufacturer: Lenovo Product: IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05
Seems related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499903, window previews and screen recording use the same infrastructure under the hood. It also says that only Fedora 40 is affected
This is caused by Fedora 40 having too old Pipewire for KWin 6.3. It should be fixed in Fedora soon
