Can you confirm if this is X or Wayland?

I cannot reproduce with Wayland + Qt 6.9

It is Wayland. Someone from the forum link that I posted mentioned that it was not reproducible on KDE Plasma 6.3 beta.

Any other info I can provide to help?
Comment 5 Adam Fontenot 2025-02-12 22:54:26 UTC
I confirm this immediately after upgrading to 6.3 on Wayland. My screen is at 1:1 pixel ratio. I wonder if the application initially assumes that the screen "ought" to use a different pixel ratio, before loading the setting.
Comment 6 Adam Fontenot 2025-02-12 23:00:59 UTC
I just noticed that this only seems to happen for me when opening the "Display Configuration" KCM. Opening other KCMs or the main application directly doesn't show this issue for me. Do you see this as well Anton?

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.2-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

I think it's Display and Configuration only. Either from right mouse button click menu, or if searching in the application launcher and opening there. I don't remember encountering similar issue for anything else.
Comment 8 Patrick Silva 2025-03-13 13:47:54 UTC
Can reproduce with Display Configuration KCM.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Comment 9 Adam Fontenot 2025-04-28 17:56:08 UTC
Just to confirm, since it was in doubt: I continue to see this issue on Plasma 6.3.4 and Qt 6.9.0. The bug isn't resolved by updating to these versions.
Comment 10 Erwin Iosef 2025-06-18 14:29:36 UTC
Adam and Anton, the same issue happens in Ark as well continuing till 6.3.5, a duplicate bug report is here, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=498557. The bug is hard to see because it happens for a split second, but with burn-my-windows desktop effects, the effect is delayed in duration and is visible thus.

I have the same issue on KDE Plasma 6.3.5, Qt 6.9.1 and kwin 6.3.5-2. Especially when I use Burn-my-windows from Schneegans.

I've been having the same problem for months. But I've noticed that if you use the effects on KDE Plasma 5, the effects doesn't have this bug. I started seeing it since KDE Plasma 6.
Comment 13 Jakob Petsovits 2025-06-20 09:37:31 UTC
I don't think it's likely that this is a KWin issue. After all, the remainder of the System Settings window is just fine, so the client application itself is not updating its KCM view in sync with the ohter navigation elements. I'd rather look at how the outer view embeds the KCM view, which (as GammaRay shows) is a separate off-screen Qt Quick scene.
Comment 14 gamix 2025-06-20 10:08:13 UTC
I've just updated to KDE Plasma 6.4.0 and kwin 6.4.0-1 this morning and I still have the problem. Expect I'm not using third parties animation but the defaults of KDE Plasma.

When I open any window, I can see the borders appearing before the window is actually opened and ready to use.

I've posted a video on Imgur to show my problem https://imgur.com/a/IUN0dDB
Comment 15 Adam Fontenot 2025-06-20 20:20:13 UTC
I'm confused about how this has been recently combined with what sounds like a different issue. The original report was just about the Display Configuration KCM. I'm open to the idea that it also affects other programs, but the changed title now says implies that this only happens when scaling is enabled. That's not the case for me: I have only ever used 1:1 pixels, and yet I continue to see scaled up window contents in the Display Configuration KCM (and have not yet observed the problem with any other program).
Comment 16 Patrick Silva 2025-06-20 20:24:28 UTC
I can reproduce even with display scale 100%. I have seen the bug with Display Configuration KCM and other KCMs.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.15.0
Qt Version: 6.9.1
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Adam, try KDE's Ark, it opens in a boxed up way too. If you record a video and watch it in slow motion you could catch it.

Hi
I just tested with other softwares like arc, dolphin, discover and there seems to be no rpbolem.
Reproduced this for wallpaper

Plasma 6.4 wayland

Those warnings not related probably because it doesn't show for kcm_kscreen

I recorded a video at 60fps (same as screen rate) with my phone, and also tried Spectacle. I advanced one frame at a time, and there was no sign of this bug whatsoever for me. Even during the "fade in" animation for the window, every widget looks to be the perfect size from frame 1.

Again, this is at 1:1 device pixel ratio. I feel pretty confident that there are two issues here and the one caused by screen scaling ought to be reported separately from this one - the original reporter specifically says it's about certain KCMs, and that's the only way I'm able to reproduce it as well.

Can you reproduce with Display Configuration specifically under 6.4.0? There have been some pretty substantive changes to the KCM with this version. What other KCMs can you reproduce the issue with?

Hey Adam, sorry for replying late, I tested it as well recently and there seems to be no problem at all now with ark.
Comment 23 Erwin Iosef 2025-06-24 09:19:17 UTC
That leaves just systemsettings and its modules.

I can reproduce with 6.4
Comment 25 Adam Fontenot 2025-06-24 12:15:32 UTC
Can confirm with Display Configuration in 6.4. I thought it had gone away for me, but it's actually just harder to see because only one or two widgets are visible in the scaled up version now, at least with my window geometry.
Comment 26 gamix 2025-09-27 19:11:46 UTC
Are people still having issues with this? I'm on KDE Plasma 6.4.5 and I'm still having the same issue.

The maintainer of the project "Burn-my-Windows" says this is a KWin problem from this post : https://github.com/Schneegans/Burn-My-Windows/issues/481#issuecomment-2585885391 but others says it's not.

Apparently the animations works fine on Gnome, it only appears in KDE Plasma 6. But on other animation native from KDE Plasma 6, I don't have this issue.

For info, this is still the same problem from the video I recorded months ago here : https://imgur.com/a/kwin-6-4-0-1-bug-IUN0dDB
