SUMMARY There are multiple symptoms, but I have to describe them all here, as together or individually the app fails to allow a connection. With a first-time installation on macOS Monterey (12.7.6) of KDE Connect v.25.3.70, after installing, and overriding the macOS Security message in order to launch `kdeconnect-indicator.app` attempting to connect from the Android app brings up a notification, but choosing Accept has no effect, and shows as rejected on the phone. I had to reboot the computer to get the KDE Connect indicator (icon) to appear at the top of the screen, but when selecting Settings, which strangely appeared together TWICE, the indicator or icon just disappears and will not reappear even when relaunching the KDE Connect indicator app. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Download the latest (Intel) macOS DMG version from https://kdeconnect.kde.org/download.html --> https://cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/network/kdeconnect-kde/master/macos-x86_64/ 2. Open the DMG and copy the app to the Applications folder 3. On attempting to launch, macOS will prevent it and tell you that macOS cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. A second launch attempt stops it again, but allows deliberately launching the app with an OK button. 4. On seeing the applications icon at the top of the screen, click on it, and see "Settings" there twice! Click and the app disappears! 5. If step four is not done, but attempt to connect from the Android KDE Connect app, by clicking "Request Pairing" , as the Mac computer indeed is discovered and listed, the request appears in the Mac's Notifications area. 6. Click Options and Accept in the macOS KDE Connect notification, but the request times out on the Android phone. This occurs whether or not the KDE Connect icon is visible on the Mac. OBSERVED RESULT Nothing happens, and the Android phone times out the request. EXPECTED RESULT The phone's connection should have been approved. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS macOS: 12.7.6 (Monterey)
Subsequently, I noticed that the Android KDE Connect app did not have Bluetooth pairing turned on by default. This is "Version 1.32.5 - Play Store" installed today. I enabled Bluetooth in KDE Connect (Android) and then Bluetooth paired and connected the phone and the (Mac) computer, and repeated the process of attempting to pair. On the computer I did Options > Accept, but the KDE Connect pairing request still timed out. The KDE Connect icon on the Mac is still not there, but I will try all of this again after another reboot.
After another reboot, with the KDE Connect (macOS app) icon still visible after having been relaunched and not touched, the pairing request still timed out. (UDP and Blue pairing are both activated on the Android KDE Connect app, but the computer did not show up until I connected to the same WiFi as the phone was on. (Phone and computer are less than one metre apart.) Clicking the KDE Connect (macOS app) icon on the Mac, and Configure... and the app / icon disappeared again! Activity Monitor (on the Mac) shows that KDE Connect is still running, but the icon or indicator is not found anywhere. It does not show as having hung or anything. It's using 0.0% of cpu. It has a bunch of files open in /Applications/kdeconnect-indicator.app/Contents/, and Core Services and other system file paths.
