SUMMARY Have two virtual desktops by default, so that the pager widget on the panel is visible by showing two virtual desktops, thus reveling the virtual desktop feature to new users. Why to consider: - This would give better visibility to the virtual desktop right out of the box. - few desktops such as manjaro plasma desktop and opensuse tumbleweed ship plasma with 2 virtual desktop - please take a look at this discussion https://discuss.kde.org/t/having-two-virtual-desktops-by-deafult-would-improve-visibility-of-virtual-desktop-feature/15568 (went a little offtopic) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 24.10 KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0 Qt Version: 6.6.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Thank you for the bug report! However Plasma 6.1.5 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE; supported versions are 5.27. (LTS), and 6.2 (non-LTS) or newer. Please upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one. If you need support for Plasma 6.1.5, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no longer supported by KDE. If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel free to re-open this bug report.
Personally, -1 from my side. I believe that we should make the virtual desktops discoverable in other ways; that's why when you open the gridview, it tells you what virtual desktops are and gives you the option to add one right away. The whole point of hiding the virtual desktop applet with just one virtual desktop was to minimize clutter and complexity for new users, who might not necessarily understand nor want virtual desktops. I can see a scenario where they don't understand the feature, accidentally click near the application launcher, and finish up in another desktop without a clear understanding on how to go back. I will close this as intentional for now, but I'm open to other opinions.
Hi Niccolò Venerandi, First of all, I admire your work on youtube, keep it up. Your point is to hide pager, by having one VD, intentionally to reduce clutter and complexity. I think virtual desktop is a fairly known feature, windows and macOs has it too. For the one who don't know the existence of VD, having two VDs will help them find it faster. They can right click and see settings and tinker with it etc. One who doesn't want it can delete by right clicking. I even think Virtual desktop feature is step one of understanding overview and gridview. So it is necessary to show it in the first place. I agree that pager takes some space, but thats the price for better visibility of Virtual desktop feature. I too want to hear other opinions on this. Regards.
