Description Lehmeier 2025-01-10 19:14:38 UTC
Hello!
It would be an advantage if there was a menu for recently used programs.
I don't know if you call it Kicker, but it should be between Favorites and Applications and maybe include the last 12 programs.

This would make the work much easier if you need a program / tool more often.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.9.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.12.8-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor
Memory: 124.9 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: X670 AORUS ELITE AX

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards R.Lehmeier

This could be implemented in a plugin, similar to Recent Files

This already exists, no? The very top item in Kicker is "Recent Applications" which shows, indeed, exactly 12 recently-opened programs. Are you saying this is missing for you? If so, can you attach a screenshot that shows it being missing?

As you can see, there is the category “Favorites” and below that “All applications”. It would be even better if the last 12 or so programs used were automatically provided in between.

My experience is that these last 12 or so programs do not necessarily have to correspond to the favorites, especially because they are not created manually but the system sorts the last 12 or so automatically.

Because sometimes you have individual programs that you need more often on one day and then not for a while.
However, the favorites are good for putting the programs there that you need all the time, such as Libreoffice, Firefox, Octopi, etc.

Aha! This is not Kicker but rather Kickoff. Kickoff also has the feature, but it's super hidden; you have to click on "Places" and then "History". This is not ideal. I support raising the feature up so it appears in the sidebar, where people can actually find it.

Well hidden.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to move it right to the top. Then it would certainly be used more often.
I'm already looking forward to the new version.

Thanks for the tip.
