I when editing i sometimes need to select multiple clips so i would hold ctrl and click in order to add to the selection but nothing happens

In the timeline: try with shift + select.
Project bin: ctrl + select should work. Shift + select selects a group between the first and last selected clip.
If this is not working run Kdenlive as administrator.
