Description religion.secular030 2025-01-04 02:53:22 UTC
SUMMARY
1. Updated to 24.12.0
2. Can't do import anything and all projects are invalid

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install latest version on Windows 10

OBSERVED RESULT
During Configuration Wizard I get:

- Missing app: mediainfo
optional for technical clip information
- Missing package: AVFilter
provides many effects. Install recommended
- Missing MLT module: avformat (FFmpeg)
required for audio/video

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything working fine like before this update

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Thought it was my OS/something I had done but it's KDENLive that's the issue
Tried pointing to the right FFmpeg paths and such, doesnt fix the problem
I tried reinstalling FFmpeg (different versions and changing the directory it's in)

Temporary Solution
Downgrading to 23.08.5 fixes the issue

Default paths

I guess you have the install version. Please check if the path is as in the screenshot attached. If so, please try with the standalone version to see if it works (https://kdenlive.org/en/download/).

I have the same problems with the standalone version
The paths are the same as the screenshot you provided on both install and standalone version
my mediainfo.exe has a capital M though if that changes anything
Comment 3 emohr 2025-01-11 08:37:07 UTC
The path in the standalone version points to the same folders as the install version. Then it’s something wrong with the install version.

Please do the following:
- Delete the folder: C:\Program Files\kdenlive
- Install Kdenlive again.

Does the issue still happen?

Yes the issue still happens after deleting the standalone and then reinstalling the install version
I shall upload images of what's happening

On 24.12.1 try a reset: Menu ‣ Help ‣ Reset Configuration

If that still not help, see this page and check: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/troubleshooting/windows_issues.html#any-critical-bug
Comment 13 religion.secular030 2025-01-16 05:31:15 UTC
I'll give that a go asap

I've had a look at the critical bugs and it dont seem to provide anything useful to the issues I'm having.

I did use Bulk Crap Uninstaller to uninstall kdenlive and removed a bunch of left over files on my 3rd uninstall so that could have done something: https://github.com/Klocman/Bulk-Crap-Uninstaller

I am also using windows 10 enterprise and I did a bunch of wack regedits and customisations so I may have screwed my OS in some way that caused the new versions of kdenlive to bug out (but everything else is fine and the old version works)

Unless it's because I have a separate ffmpeg install? like i have an install in C:\FFmpeg and that's on my system path and then I have the ffmpeg that comes with kdenlive but i never put it on my path

Also I use python in conda environments so it's not properly installed on my system if that might affect anything

Just giving as much info as I can incase that hints to any possible solution

I really want to continue using kdenlive, for now (until I refresh my OS or eventually switch to linux for most things) I don't mind using an older version. The kdenlive FFmpeg integration, the UI and the customisability of everything is so sweet that I cannot go back :')

I've tried other products and the amount of hassle you have to go through to support non-standard formats and things is crazy.
