Description fphcn588r 2025-01-03 19:54:37 UTC
Hi, I’m using an old machine with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card. In any application, if I use a black theme, I see black dots, and if I use a white theme, I see white dots. I have observed this on other laptops with the same graphics card. If I switch to my second graphics card, nvidia geforce gt 740m, the problem is solved, but I want to use the intel graphics card and I think this is not a solution because I have another laptop with only intel graphics card. I usually see this black dot problem more in programs written in QT. I will try to add a video. The video has a detailed demonstration of the error.
Note : I am currently using arch linux, but this error appears in all linux distributions that use kde without exception. I encountered this error in Kubuntu, Debian, KDE Neon, Arch, Fedora

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux

Moving to KWin as it is related to all applications and graphical glitching.

It looks to me like a graphics driver bug

Hi - do these artifacts follow the cursor at all, or is their appearance/location changed when passed over by the cursor?

In the System Settings > Display & Monitor section, are you using a display scaling percentage other than 100%? Are you using a color profile on your display?

Thanks!

1) These dots do not interact with the cursor in any way. They do not react to the presence and movement of the cursor.
2) I use 100% as the display scaling percentage.
3) I do not use a special color profile.

I also encounter this problem after installing any Linux distribution for the first time, even if I do not customize it and try to use it out of the box.

Finally, I apologize for my bad English

Thanks for confirming, and no apology needed!

Does the issue show up if you boot from a Live USB, without installing? And does the issue show up if you boot from a Live USB using a desktop environment other than KDE Plasma?

When I tried a distribution that uses KDE via live USB, I encountered the problem again. When I tried a distribution that uses GNOME via live USB, I did not encounter this problem in the system interface and the GTK applications in it, but I encountered black dots in Firefox again.
