Highlight remains on last hovered file.

As the attachment shows, the last file the user hovered remains highlighted even when the cursor is over empty space.
It even remains highlighted when the cursor is outside the Application Menu and over a desktop file.

This is similar to Bug 494733

Hi - the design of the Application Launcher is that there's always something actively selected in the list/grid on the right-hand side. Is the proposal to make that no longer the case? That would seem difficult, as the menu can't only respond to mouse cursor position but should also be mindful of keyboard navigation.

(For what it's worth, I don't necessarily know that this would be related to 494733 - that would seem to deal with desktop icons, as opposed to the Application Launcher widget?)

Oh yeah, removing that would ruin keyboard usage... Didn't think of that.
