SUMMARY Wallpaper applied to a single display (via drag-n-drop from Dolphin) will disappear if the machine is rebooted (or the user logs out and back into plasma). I've tested under X11 and Wayland, both. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Drag a wallpaper image to the desktop. 2. In the resulting menu, (under "Wallpaper"), select "Set Image". This will cover that one display with the image. 3. Log out of plasma. 4. Log back in as the same user. OBSERVED RESULT The wallpaper placed in the above scenario will have disappeared. EXPECTED RESULT The wallpaper should be durable until changed by the user. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 6.2 KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.9.0 Qt Version: 6.8.1 Kernel Version: 6.8.0-51-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Affects both X11 and Wayland Processors: 32 × AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core Processor Memory: 46.7 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600 Manufacturer: ASUS
In contrast to the above, I applied a new image (image1) to a single display using the "Desktop and Wallpaper" settings, and drag-n-drop applied a different image (image2) to another display. After logout/login, image1 was still there, image2 was not.
ANOTHER BIT OF ADDITIONAL INFO In comparing how the "Desktop and Wallpaper" settings page (settings) differs from the "drag-n-drop from Dolphin" (DnD) scenario, I noticed that the settings page correctly preselects the actual image on the display (whether it got there through settings or DnD). So I wondered if simply bringing up the settings and clicking OK would fix the issue. It does. I tested by applying two new images to two displays via DnD, and then launching the settings page on one of them and pressing OK. I then rebooted. The second of those images survived reboot.
