SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Turn on PC
2. Wait for the screens to suspend
3. Sign back in

OBSERVED RESULT

The desktop wallpaper will flicker intermittently every few seconds.

EXPECTED RESULT

No wallpaper flickering

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.12.4-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This does not happen with the built in wallpapers, only when I set a custom one. This is worse under Wayland than X11, and under wayland the flicker affects other apps as well. Under X11 only the wallpaper flickers, if I cover it with apps it stops. If its relevant I have 2 monitors.

This has persisted after a fresh install

Very likely a GPU driver issue, unfortunately. Can you report this issue to the NVIDIA folks, either by sending an email to linux-bugs@nvidia.com or making a post at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-graphics/linux? It would be helpful to the NVIDIA developers if you could run nvidia-bug-report.sh and attach the resulting file in your report. Thanks!
