Unable to Change and Save Main Display Resolution and Scaling Settings
Comment 1 Carlos De Maine 2024-12-11 04:31:09 UTC
could we have some more info please? which edition? what exactly happens when you do change the settings ? etc?
Comment 2 trosko 2024-12-12 23:10:47 UTC
This is a freshly installed version of kde neon 6.2 + updates. Only on the built-in monitor, when changing the resolution + scaling after pressing keep, there is no message testing the appearance and counting down the timer and asking if to keep the changes like on the monitor connected via hdmi. On the icon the built-in display only replaces the data, but after refreshing the window it returns to the initial k and scaling 225%. Once approved, the appearance does not change. I thought it was an installation error. I made a new bootable disk and installed linux from scratch and the same thing.

Hi - to make sure folks are trying to reproduce the same behavior you're seeing, could you please provide:

* Specific steps to reproduce - as exact as possible, including the labels on the buttons being clicked, the order in which you're seeing things, etc. I think I generally understand what you wrote in comment 2, but am not sure exactly what you did when you described "changing after pressing keep", "refreshing the window", and things like that. A good sample Steps to Reproduce can be referenced here: https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Issue_Reporting#Steps_to_Reproduce

* If at all possible, a screen recording (using Spectacle, for example) - to help make sure folks are reproducing your specific steps and tracking when and where the results match or differ on their own systems

Thanks!

It looks like that Google Drive link is access-restricted - could you allow folks with the link to view it?

Thanks - can you also provide what your device's graphics card setup is? A tool like `inxi -G` is helpful for that as it will list multiple cards if present along with their driver versions.

Thanks for providing that! Two follow-up questions there:

* Are you able to change the resolution and scaling settings on the laptop display if the external display isn't connected at all (ex. when it's the only one present in that configuration screen)?
* Does this issue occur if you boot from a live USB - not reinstalling, just using the live environment?

Thanks,

If I unplug the hdmi and on the laptop screen it is the same - it doesn't
work, when using the system with usb the scaling change works and the
resolution is only the maximum 4k, I don't have a select with a different
resolution.

This bug makes it very difficult to work on multiple monitors.

How long will it take to correct this error? It seems to me that it is very important and interferes with work?
Comment 15 Nate Graham 2025-01-21 19:31:23 UTC
Until someone can reproduce the issue, presumably. I haven't been able to; this is all working fine for me.
Comment 16 TraceyC 2025-01-29 21:44:54 UTC
I tried to reproduce on git-master (Wayland) using steps from the screen recording. I couldn't reproduce.
Laptop with AMD GPU connected to an HDMI monitor

I also tried to reproduce in a KDE Neon Developer Ed. VM, as well as Neon User Ed. VM and couldn't reproduce there either

Steps:
- Go to Display Configuration
- Change resolution of built-in screen
- Use an arrow to change scale, click Apply. I saw the confirmation and choose Keep
- Go to another settings panel and go back to Display Settings. Confirmed the changes had been applied

I installed a clean x3 system and still the same. On the older version 5.x
everything worked normally? Is there any other way to change it?

Comment 18 John Kizer 2025-02-07 04:46:35 UTC
Does changing the resolution/scaling work as normal on a live USB of a totally different Linux distribution, like Ubuntu Desktop (the GNOME edition)? Just thinking if there's a possible kernel + your hardware interaction there?

Currently, it doesn't work the same on the USB. In earlier versions kde neon 5.xx worked normally, so I asked for an error. What else should I give you? I'm not asking for it to fix it if it didn't work before. It worked on other distributions.
