Description ray 2024-12-10 19:49:30 UTC
Some GTK application changing mouse pointer to wrong unknown theme on their windows.

For example Firefox main pointer changed to small and different than plasma breeze theme, even other like link anchor pointer or text area. Basically different mouse pointer/cursor them on Firefox window. Next problem is window close/minimize/maximize icons has changed too. X close is wrong (not breeze system) minimize and maximize buttons disappeared.

GIMP window same problem, Blender - similar problem but just ugly small pixelated cursor

I can't reproduce this in git master, but I do see a number of cursor-related changes in https://kde.org/announcements/changelogs/plasma/6/6.2.3-6.2.4

I'm not sure what the theme changes could be caused by, though.

The bug affects several GTK apps, including a flatpak. This also affects the fonts in these apps (e.g. Pinta and LibreOffice). This theme inconsistency reminds me of the problems we had before when Wayland was in testing and there were those font and pointer inconsistencies in GTK+ apps.

I wonder if this is kde-gtk-config not working as expected.

After today KDE gear update Firefox back to normal

Blender from my example not change at all as some other GTK apps.
I'm glad that Firefox as was most annoying problem seems to be solved.
I'm not using Thunderbird, but I've check this one too and also seems to be fine. (don't know if was problematic before)

People mention Libreoffice but on my end was ok even before KDE Gear update and is till ok after

so it still need attention but KDE gear update may solve some of problems.

Libreoffice continues to have problems with fonts, as does Pinta.

As far i remember it's not the first time when kde gear fixing something broken after new plasma release.

It Is not better to release plasma and gear in same time to avoid some divergences ? I guess some qt libs involved in this problem.

that fonts problem i had when 22.04 was base in Neon in some kde apps like akregator, kmail (not entire application just views like mail text or news view) but Neon on 24.04 fixed all these problems, so no idea what broke in your case in Libreoffice.

With the recent update of xdg-desktop-portal (1.18.4-1+24.04+noble+release+build12) the font problem in Libreoffice, krita and other apps has been solved!

Thank you for the quick solution!
