Version: 1.4.3 (using KDE 3.0.3) Installed from: SuSE Compiler: gcc version 3.2 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.19-4GB I think it would be a helpful feature if mails could be marked as 'not to be deltetd' and that kmail won't delete them although the delete button is pressed.
I'd very much like this feature to be added - it's a feature I use all the time in my current Win32 mail & news client, Forte Agent, and is something I miss a lot in Kmail. For me there's no substitute when dealing with large quantities of mail distributed across lots of folders, some of which I want to keep for archive purposes, but most of which is just rubbish to be discarded. The only alternative is to make up two related sets of folders, and spend a lot of time moving the valuable messages from the initial folders to the "keep" folders before purging the initial folders. In Forte Agent, marking a message for keeping is as easy as pressing "K". The message is then immune from any form of deletion, whether manual action, or automatic purging. Such a feature would be great in Kmail.
Maybe the "Important" flag could be used for this purpose?
I was about to enter a new wish to not delete "important" mails. It's got my vote and I'll see if I can implement it.
I was going to suggest creating a flag that would prevent a message from being deleted by accident. This suggestion has my vote.
You can 'sort of' do the thing mentioned in comment #2 by not using delete but "expire". In Configure KMail->Misc->Folders , check "Exclude important messages from expiry". Then, for the folder you want to purge, right click on it and select expire from the menu. As for the initial suggestion, it might be plausible to ask for confirmation when deleting important messages.
