Description jackyzy823 2024-12-06 01:42:01 UTC
SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plasma-nm doesn't provide UI for editing wake-on-lan settings.
2. Update wake-on-lan settings via nmcli
3. Edit other settings in Plasma-nm for wired connections.

OBSERVED RESULT
The wake-on-lan settings are reset to default.

EXPECTED RESULT
1) Could edit wake-on-lan settings
2) The wake-on-lan settings are kept

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Since settings are constructed from the beginning (not by updating exist one) when saving , so if the field is not supported by plasma-nm editor, it will be reset to default even this field is changed by 3rd tools.

I believe this should be promoted to a bug, because "The wake-on-lan settings are reset to default." is definitely unintended and unexpected behaviour.

Should we open a new bug so the feature request is tracked independently?

Probably no, since [implement this feature](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-nm/-/merge_requests/389) will fix the problem.

(And the bug is caused by the mechanism used by plasma-nm to save settings which might be a design choice.)
