SUMMARY In my fresh Kubuntu 24.04 LTS installation, starting digikam for the first time always ends in "Illegal instruction (core dumped)". It does not matter if I install from the software center, through apt or use one of the AppImages. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install digikam: sudo apt-get install digikam (installs 8.2) 2. start digikam from cmd line 3. Hi I use also Kubuntu 24.04 here and the problem is not reproducible at all. 1/ Please try with last 8.5.0 appimage. 2/ run digikam in gdb and capture the backtrace : https://www.digikam.org/contribute/#linux-host-1 Best Gilles Caulier
The crashes between digiKam 8.0.0 to about 8.2.0 were related to the SSE detection at compile time and runtime for the QtAVPlayer. Maik

I overlooked the small print on the download page and clicked the first link. Thanks for the pointers.
