Description Andrea Ippolito 2024-11-27 08:15:36 UTC
I used to (back in the Plasma 5 days, IIRC) be able to start typing something as soon as I reached my Plasma session, and KRunner would popup and take note of what I was typing. Super convenient to quickly start an app you don't want to auto-start, but only need occasionally.

Now for a while this has been really unreliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (i.e. I type and nothing happens).

I suspect it has something to do with window focus, but I haven't any windows open at this point. I have some auto-starting apps in my tray, though.

I also tried to open any app window (e.g. firefox, dolphin), then Meta+D to focus the Desktop and then start typing, and this works consistently, good. But at boot when nothing else has been opened yet, it's hit-or-miss.

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20241125

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.8.0

I can reproduce unreliable behavior when minimizing all open windows and then starting to type. Clicking on the desktop itself seems to cause typing to start KRunner sometimes, but isn't consistent either.

Related to my system info - I do have an Nvidia card, and I can trigger https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480800 , but this appears to be separate as when I experience this one, no eglSwapBuffers errors appear in the journal.

I have the same issue and noticed in my case that it only refuses to work on the first desktop reached after login. In my case it’s the one from which I last shut my system down (I don’t know if there’s a setting for this). For example, if I have four desktops and shutdown from the 3rd, on next login I will land on it. KRunner will then work (by typing on the desktop) on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th, but not on the 3rd.

After some time though, it seems to again from from all of them.

KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.16.0
Qt Version: 6.9.1
