Description Fernando M. Muniz 2024-11-20 18:02:12 UTC
I'm requesting the addition of a short highlight effect on the scrollbar of the extended desktop area when it gets activated.

That's because it's hard to notice the scrollbar when using some wallpapers.
It even made it hard to understand why Bug 484148 was happening.

It does get highlighted, at least for me. Can you attach a screen recording that shows this not working for you?

No pop up effect when spawning

Highlight effect is nowhere to be seen.

Oh, I see now. Your video shows the scrollbar get highlighted when hovered as expected. But you're asking for an additional effect when it's *clicked*, right?

Right now Breeze style scrollbars don't do this. I suppose they could.

No, I want an effect that makes it clear that the user has activated this expanded desktop, because as it is, the user can accidentally activate it by moving a file beyond the space expecting it would go to the nearest neighbour on the last row.

The user should be visually informed that the desktop is now expanded.

I think that the scrollbar being highlighted not only is less intrusive than having the new spaces highlighted, but it also has the benefit of having a higher chance of making the user aware that the desktop is now expanded while at the same time showing the scroll to navigate it.

As it is, the user could be confused, thinking that the files/folders on the opposite site disappeared.

I believe I misunderstood a comment in another bug.
Re-Reported.

The scrollbar makes it clear, no? There was no scrollbar before, then the expanded desktop feature got activated, and then the scrollbar appeared, letting you know that the view became scrollable. This how everything that's only sometimes scrollable works.

Now, I think the fact that the desktop can be scrollable is a mis-feature and I'm in favor of getting rid of it. See https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/issues/139

Until that happens, I'm afraid this is basically "works as expected".
