Description Rick 2024-11-18 16:27:13 UTC
SUMMARY
Fresh install of Kubuntu. I did choose to install the complete full operating system along with all default programs/utilities when I installed off of a bootable USB drive.
Opening Dolphin, I could not see any devices in the SMB shared folders. I then opened discover and searched for utilities that were not installed. I found "KDE-Services" and chose to install it thinking that was not installed when I installed the operating system. I received the following pop-up error:

servicemenu.knsrc: An error occurred during the installation process: The installation failed with code 1 while attempting to run the command: servicemenuinstaller install /home/rick/.local/share/servicemenu-download/kde-services-3.0.2.tar.bz2 The returned output was: "Failed to find an installation script in /home/rick/.local/share/servicemenu-download/kde-services-3.0.2.tar.bz2-dir"

It appears the package installer failed to load an installation script. Why did this occur? Where do I get the installation script?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.Install Kubuntu
2. Attempt to view folders and syatems in Dolphin smb
3. Attempt to install KDE-Services

OBSERVED RESULT
Install failed.

EXPECTED RESULT
servicemenu.knsrc: An error occurred during the installation process: The installation failed with code 1 while attempting to run the command: servicemenuinstaller install /home/rick/.local/share/servicemenu-download/kde-services-3.0.2.tar.bz2 The returned output was: "Failed to find an installation script in /home/rick/.local/share/servicemenu-download/kde-services-3.0.2.tar.bz2-dir"

Unsupported question:
This file already exists on disk (possibly due to an earlier failed download attempt). Continuing means overwriting it. Do you wish to overwrite the existing file?

The fact that SMB browsing did not work out of the box is unfortunately a packaging issue in Kubuntu; please report it there.

The fact that the "KDE-Services" add-on did not install correctly is unfortunately a bug in that add-on itself. Please report this to its developer.

Thanks!
