I think I have the same problem but on Nvidia. Do you see these in your journalctl when you try to enable HDR? nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_wayland_drm: Checking test buffer failed! nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: Invalid framebuffer status: "GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT" nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x502: GL_INVALID_OPERATION error generated. <image> and <target> are incompatible nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: Invalid framebuffer status: "GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT" nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x502: GL_INVALID_OPERATION error generated. <image> and <target> are incompatible nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: Invalid framebuffer status: "GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT" nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x502: GL_INVALID_OPERATION error generated. <image> and <target> are incompatible nov 13 22:13:03 archlinux kwin_wayland[843]: kwin_scene_opengl: Invalid framebuffer status: "GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT" Also does using these work for you? They do not for me. kscreen-doctor output.1.wcg.enable kscreen-doctor output.1.hdr.enable
Drivers by default unfortunately don't give out any information on why enabling things fails. Could you try to follow the instructions at https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/wikis/Debugging-DRM-issues to get drm debug logging for when you try to enable HDR?
For me it just ended up being a hardware issue. Unplugged and replugged the DisplayPort cable and now it works.
