SUMMARY Mouse Click Animation is not working consistently on X11, it does work on Wayland just fine. By not working I mean the animation does not play for left, middle or right click most of the time. If you leave it running throughout the day, you might see it work the one time out of 20 - 30 clicks, I've not found any errors logged. STEPS TO REPRODUCE System Settings -> Window Management -> Desktop Effects -> Mouse Click Animation Enable the option, activate it via shortcut if required and attempt to use it on the desktop OBSERVED RESULT The animation will play 1 out of every 20 attempts as an estimate, and sometimes it's delayed. Comparing that to Wayland where it works on every click at the time you press the button. EXPECTED RESULT To work as it does in Wayland currently, where every click you make triggers the animation SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux - 6.11.6-zen1-1-zen KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0 Qt Version: 6.8.0 AMD 7800XT - mesa 1:24.2.6
I've found its not random when it works, but is based on movement. If you move the mouse while clicking it will work, keeping the mouse still and clicking, it won't.
