Description Julian Groß 2024-10-29 11:26:59 UTC
SUMMARY
The swipe up behaviour was changed from opening the task switcher directly, to showing the home screen on the first swipe and requiring a second swipe to open the task switcher.

Personally I prefer it to have it always open the task switcher and only open the home screen when pressing outside the task switcher.
I always use the task switcher to switch between windows, and having to swipe twice (while having to wait for the home screen to appear) is frustrating. I would argue that people are more likely to be wanting to switch between running apps quickly, than wanting to open a new app.

The animation also makes it look to me like the window is being closed, so I am wondering if this change was even intentional, or if this is a bug.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an application.
2. Swipe up (while in gesture-only mode)
3. See the home screen appear.

If you have the chance, could you please record a video of what you are experiencing?

The gesture itself is actually still supposed to be the same, however some thresholds and visuals were changed in https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-mobile/-/merge_requests/574#note_1052388. You have to swipe up and hold a bit for the task switcher to show up. There is a vibration to indicate when it passes, but I'm guessing some visual indication would also be needed for devices without it
