Description Peter 2024-10-23 17:33:46 UTC
SUMMARY

pkcon update is throwing the error, "Fatal error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: kpim6-akonadi-contacts: Breaks: libkpim5akonadicontact-data but 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu3 is to be installed"

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run Discover and fetch updates
2. Discover reports that libkpim5akonadimime-data, libkpim5libkleo-data and libkpim5mailtransport-data are to be updated
3. Discover invites me to restart system to complete the update, but after restarting the same three packages still need to be updated
4. Running pkcon update gives the error message, "Fatal error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: kpim6-akonadi-contacts: Breaks: libkpim5akonadicontact-data but 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu3 is to be installed"

OBSERVED RESULT

Packages are not updated. Kontact doesn't run beyond the Kontact splash screen..

EXPECTED RESULT

Packages should be updated, and Kontact should open correctly

Hi Laurent,

I reported the bug on Launchpad, and got a reply saying, ""kpim6-akonadi-contacts:amd64 4:24.08.2-0zneon+24.04+noble+release+build7" is a package provided by the Neon project and not by Ubuntu. The Neon project will need to update or fix any dependency issues.". I've changed Product to Neon: is there anything else you would recommend I do?

I also attempted to install akonadiconsole, and got more unmet depedencies,

libkpim5akonadimime5 : Depends: libkpim5akonadimime-data (= 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed
libkpim5libkleo5 : Depends: libkpim5libkleo-data (= 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed
libkpim5mailtransport5 : Depends: libkpim5mailtransport-data (= 23.08.5-0ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed

just tried to update, and got this new error:

Package failed to install:
Error while installing package: trying to overwrite /usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/akonadi_search.mo, which is also in package kpim6-akonadi-search 4

After last update my laptop would not boot properly, and got stuck on the manufacturer logo.
It might not be related fix this bug, but that's what happened.
After the panic attack, i could run dpkg from the recovery mode.
This fixed my issue, and updated to plasma6.2.2
Once restarted, discover asked to update the ibkpim5* libraries, and they all got updated successfully.

Problem fixed on my side \o/

Thanks!!
