SUMMARY: I've upgraded my system to the latest KDE Plasma updates, it's impossible to access the Wayland session now. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. insert my user's password 2. wait for the splashscreen OBSERVED RESULT 3. ...I get kicked to sddm again. I can enter the x11 session instead.
Seems that I can access if I unplug the DisplayPort or the HDMI cable and try to use my laptop's screen. As soon as I replug it in, I get kicked away again.
I'm experiencing the same. "/home/user/.local/share/sddm/wayland-session.log" shows: Error: could not determine $DISPLAY. Error: Can not contact kdeinit5! org.kde.startup: "kdeinit5_shutdown" QList() exited with code 255 startplasma-wayland: Shutting down... startplasmacompositor: Shutting down... startplasmacompositor: Done.
The most useful log after this happens will be "journalctl --user -r"
Created attachment 175026 [details] journalctl output Attaching journalctl --user -r after failing Wayland *and* then entering with X11 in order to have the output. It's 5 or 6MB, it's impossible to attach it here.
I have the same problem (also opensuse). I'd attach the log but mine is 84Mb for some reason. intel iGPU and amd dGPU.
Same problem here on Opensuse Tumbleweed: plasma wayland, authentication mask appears, input of password never proceeds. Ctrl + Alt + backspace to abort, change to console Ctrl+Alt+F1, login as user, startx proceeds to full KDE desktop. I also have an external display attached.
Newest updates has just fixed this for me.
The newest updated fixed this for me.
Still doesn't work here. With external display attached, KDE Plasma Wayland session never starts up to desktop. I have to remove the external display, start KDE without it, then I can reattach the display and then it works as intended. OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 20241018, KDE Plasma Version 6.2.1, KDE Frameworks Version 6.7.0, kernel 6.11.3-1-default (64-bit). Hoped for updates to fix it, but not yet.
openSUSE Tumbleweed 20241023 update solved the problem.
