SUMMARY I update software automatically (in Settings there are set following options "Update software: Automatically Update frequency: Daily Apply system updates: After rebooting" And happens as in subject. I observed that this happens often when in Discover I do update (is doing downloading updates) just after login to Plasma session (of course when will appears proper button in tray), and after few hours of work I close the system (usually by option "Shutdown" from the Kicker). In this moment in logoff screen I don't see button to update system. Workaround is to start Discover again, click again Update. After that I can see that progress very quickly move to 100%. Now I chose "Shutdown" in Kicker and magically "Update system" appears. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Set (in Settings) "Software Update" as below: "Update software: Automatically Update frequency: Daily Apply system updates: After rebooting" 2. If updates will happen then click proper icon in tray 3. In opened Discover click Update 4. When downloading of updates will be finished, just close Discover 5. Don't logoff, powering off Plasma through few hours, just do its job. 6. Click "Shutdown" in Kicker OBSERVED RESULT Missing "Update system." button in logoff/power off screen EXPECTED RESULT Button "Update system." should be visible in logoff/power off screen SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Neon unstable edition. I think issue started happen more than 1 week ago, or even earlier.
"You can also now choose to shut down the system after applying an offline system update, in addition to the existing option to restart afterwards." Seems that doesn't work well, or at least reliable. I described my experiences above.
Today I replicated issue. After login to Plasma when appeared notification about updates. I started Discover made updates, and closed Discover. After few hours I clicked Shutdown. Unfortunately I got screen with two buttons "Shutdown" and "Cancel". I started again Discover clicked Update, and in 2 seconds all was finished. I closed Discover and clicked "Shut Down" in Kicker. In result magically appeared 3rd button called: "Install Updates and Shut Down". So why it isn't shown after few hours when downloading updates finish? Is it bug, or intentional?
Recently I cannot replicate issue.
Neon Testing I verified there were software updates to install (a system upgrade, which will require a reboot) With the Software Update settings as described, ran through the steps to reproduce I am not able to reproduce the bug either. After installing updates, if I go to Shutdown, I do see "Install Updates and Shutdown" KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.9.0 Qt Version: 6.8.0 There are some updates which would not require a restart to finish installing. If you see this bug again, feel free to re-open this issue and include a list or screenshot of the updates that are pending install. Thanks!

After installing updates, if I go > to Shutdown, I do see "Install Updates and Shutdown" > > KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4 > KDE Frameworks Version: 6.9.0 > Qt Version: 6.8.0 > > There are some updates which would not require a restart to finish > installing. I didn't mean upgrade what require reboot, only any update. As I described, I have following settings "Update software: Automatically Update frequency: Daily Apply system updates: After rebooting" so in result if will happen any update I can see Discover icon on systray. I click on it, and then usually click "Update all" - in result updates are downloaded. After this is finished I can see in main view of Discover suggestion to "restart and install updates". Usually I don't do it, because don't want to stop my work, only I close Discover window. I shut down my PC after couple of hours. And sometimes happens that when I click "Shut down" or "Restart" (option in Kicker) I don't see option to install updates on closing screen. To resolve this I just back to Plasma and run again Discover. Here usually I can see that happened updates, so again I click "Update all" and I can see in main view of Discover suggestion to "restart and install updates". I close Discover and click again "Shut down". And this time on closing screen I can see option to install updates. Anyway you should try to apply my configuration and try follow my description above: "5. Don't logoff, powering off Plasma through few hours, just do its job."
My apologies for misunderstanding the bug you described. I re-tested this with Neon Testing and git-master I set the update options to match what you have: "Update software: Automatically Update frequency: Daily Apply system updates: After rebooting" ## Testing on Neon Testing In Discover, I saw there were updates pending marked "System upgrade". I can confirm that after I click "Shut Down", on the confirmation screen, I do not see anything about updating the system. Shutting the system down did not trigger the update as expected - not ok ❌ ## Testing on git-master In Discover on Plasma all built from git-master, I saw there were updates pending marked "System upgrade". Clicking "Shutdown" immediately shut down the system, without confirmation or performing updates. After rebooting, I saw a notification that updates were available - not ok ❌
