Description Michel Cambron 2024-10-02 10:55:34 UTC
I would like to make the following suggestion:
Add a feature in DigiKam to be able to perform focuss staking in a similar manner that DigiKam performs Braketing ( expore blending) .
Refer to this web site that presents focus-stack :
https://peterfalkingham.com/2024/04/29/an-excellent-free-and-open-source-focus-stacking-solution/
and:
https://github.com/PetteriAimonen/focus-stack
Is it possible to add focuss-stack as a plug in in DigiKam ?

Kind regards
Michel Cambron

Hi Michael,

In digiKam 8.7.0, The G'MIC-Qt image filters collection will be able to process a selection of items and merge result into one.

I recommend to take a look to the Blend* filters where focus stack canbe merged in different meaner. Look this screenshot for ex:

To test, try the 8.7.0 pre-release available here :

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

Bonjour Gilles,

https://gmic.eu/reference/list_of_commands.html#blending_and_fading) ,

Hello Michel,
You are discussing a very interesting topic. However, I think that many more users would take part in the discussion if you could make your points in English. French is not everyone's cup of tea.
If you are not so familiar with the English language, you could perhaps use a translation tool such as deepl.com.
Best regards, Stephan

In essence, Gilles wrote to me to say that DIGIKAM 8,7 had a new feature
to able to select images and put them in layers which enabled the use
of blend modes in GMIC. I did some tests with two BLEND modes ( edges
and fades) and I tried to focus stack 4 pictures I took with different
focus point. I found it difficult to use these blend modes as the
documentation is near non-existent ( see
https://gmic.eu/reference/list_of_commands.html#blending_and_fading )
and documentation does not explain the parameters of the different
sliders. For a reason or another, GMIC blend produces two or three
output picture with barely any focus improvement. I think that these
blend modes have a different purpose and they do not do focus staking.
See a good example of an application that does focus stacking named
Picolay: https://www.picolay.de/index.html.

Thank you for all the work that you do to make DigiKam a very useful
tool to manage my 100,000 + photos.

Kind regards,

Michel

Bonjour,

I reviewed the Digikam documentation per the link that you sent me.
However I do not see the description of the different blending modes in
the Layers section of GMIC.

*BUG:*

I installed DigiKam 8.7 and when I click on the help button and then
click on the on-line documentation, DigiKam will freeze and I must kill
the process  with the window task manager.

Regards,

Michel
