Description Loïc Droz 2024-09-29 12:56:07 UTC
SUMMARY

Sometimes, when resuming from sleep, I am unable to show/enable the password input field, by pressing any key or moving the cursor with the touchpad. This prevents me from logging back in, and I have to force restart my laptop.

The screen is not frozen, I can still see the lock screen's clock ticking.

The keyboard works, for example I can switch a different TTY and type anything I want there.

Not sure if the touchpad works, because I cannot even see the cursor when it happens.

I tried typing the password anyway and hitting ENTER, in case the input field is just hidden but still enabled, but that didn't work.

The issue can be difficult to reproduce because it does not happen every time.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Put the laptop to sleep.
2. Wake up the laptop from sleep.
3. Press any key or move the cursor with the touchpad.

OBSERVED RESULT

The password field does not appear, the cursor does not appear, it is not possible to log in.

EXPECTED RESULT

The password field should appear when any key is pressed or the cursor is moved. In addition, when the cursor is moved it should appear.

I should also mention that I can work around the issue by switching to another tty and unlocking my locked session using loginctl unlock-session.

Thank you for the bug report. Can you provide system logs from your system from just before to just after you try to log in?
This may or may not be the same as bug 494927, the logs will give us a better idea.
