The "lowercase" function (found in the menu "Selection" > "Capitalisation") has a default shortcut of "Ctrl-Shift-U".
This shortcut in fact begins Unicode character entry.

True. That is not optimal. One could remove that default shortcut, but that would annoy people used to it like me.
