Description Duns 2024-09-25 14:05:07 UTC
SUMMARY

In the KDE menu almost at top Recent Files menu works only if I try to remove all files (or a single app), but not a single file (unless sometimes, randomly and rarely)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to KDE menu -> Recent Files
2. Try to remove (forget) a single recent file
3. Someteme it happens, but in 99% of cases no

OBSERVED RESULT

The forget file doesn't work

EXPECTED RESULT

The forget file should work, removing that file

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: KDE neon 6.0
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-40-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 13,5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

As I said Recent Applications works as expected, and so Recent Files -> forget all. But not for a single file.
Not sure that this is the right section of KDE Bugs: sorry.

I see "Forget File" in the context menu for recent files in both Kickoff and Kicker. Can you attach a screenshot that shows the menu you're using, plus the contents of the context menu when you right-click on a file?

Here you are!

I too see "Forget File": the problem is that command doesn't work.
Comment 4 Nate Graham 2024-10-03 20:59:29 UTC
So you click on it and it does nothing?

Does this issue reproduce in a new clean user account on the same machine?
Comment 5 Duns 2024-10-05 20:11:16 UTC
Yes, nothing happen.
Yes, in all my devices and all users I have this bug.
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2024-10-16 16:42:25 UTC
How strange, I can't reproduce that on current git master. Does it still happen in Plasma 6.2.0?
Comment 7 Duns 2024-10-17 04:16:10 UTC
Yes, it does. And in all my devices (even after going to lts 24.06).
Here my details:

KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-47-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 13,5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

I'm unsure what the problem could be, unfortunately. Are you able to test with a different distro? Maybe somehow it's a Neon-specific issue.
Comment 9 Duns 2024-10-17 21:54:45 UTC
Yes: in Kubuntu there isn't this issue. Only in Neon.

Sorry, but what kind of info I should provide?

I can confirm "Forget File" menu item isn't behaving as expected in the "Application Menu" (Kicker). The bug was filed under the wrong component (Kickoff: "Application Launcher")

Reproduced under: Arch Linux, Plasma 6.2.3, Frameworks 6.8.0, Qt 6.8.0. Steps to reproduce:

1. Replace menu: "Show Alternates" → "Application Menu" on the Plasma panel.
2. Create some text files on the desktop and open them.
3. Open the menu → Recent Files → "Forget File" for one of them.
4. Nothing appears to happen.

However, if I log out and back in, the file I asked to forget disappears from the menu, so it is functionally working. Hopefully it's just a simple 'need to refresh the list' kind of bug.

Thank you! I see...
Indeed this is a small bug, but it would be better to fix it, sooner or later.
