Comment 1 Justin Zobel 2024-09-20 04:40:48 UTC
Can you please provide additional information, I am not sure what you are trying to report. I have opened a PDF in Okular, pressed Ctrl+P and I can switch between my printer and "Print to file (PDF)" options.

Maybe a screenshot or screen recording would better help illustrate the issue.

Ah so your system printer isn't showing in Okular.

Is Okular from your system repository or is it from Flathub/Snap/Appimage etc?

Can you also please fill out the template so we can see software/hardware info:

The command is "kinfocenter". But if it's not available, can you please at least write down what's written in the Help -> About Okular menu?
You can get the Okular version (on top) and all the information in the "Components" tab.

Also, which distribution do you use, and which version of the distribution?
Comment 9 dave 2024-09-23 13:34:50 UTC
The following is from: Info Center version: 5.27.11

KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.13
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-45-generic (64-bit)
Graphic Platform: Wayland

Ubuntu was downloaded from ubuntu.com
Current version: 24.04.1 LTS
Comment 10 Justin Zobel 2024-09-24 04:00:32 UTC
I reviewed the video of the issue again and noticed that Okular is perhaps installed as a snap. Can you try installing Okular from the Ubuntu repository (non-snap) and see if the issue is the same?

I uninstalled it and then installed it from the repository. It now prints.
Finally, thanks.

I moved it to the snaps category as while you found a way to print, the issue still exists in the snap package for Okular.

Please tell me the output of

snap list okular
snap list cups
Comment 16 dave 2024-09-24 16:01:54 UTC
Scarlett,
Unfortunately I cannot provide your request for I removed the snap version of Okular
and replaced it with Okular from the Ubuntu repository (non-snap).
I get the following:
$ snap list okular
error: no matching snaps installed
$ snap list cups
error: no matching snaps installed

That was actually helpful, it means cups isn't getting installed and connected so therefore no printing. I know how to proceed, thanks!

I'm glad that I was helpful in some way. And thank you for letting me know.
BTW - Okular is a very good product, which is why I tried and tried to get
it to work under "snap".

Comment 19 Bowie 2024-12-30 00:58:49 UTC
I have same problem, only gives choice to print to PDF. Problem just started. Something in KDE changed.
Comment 20 Bowie 2024-12-30 01:32:47 UTC
I have used Microsoft Paint for years, however with the last upgrade of Ubuntu to 24.04 a few months ago, it changed to kolourpaint and have been using that with no problems until I logged on to my computer recently and now it only gives me the option to print to a pdf file. The paint pallet icon changed back to the old icon with the paint brush and now I have the problem. I have not made any changes to my system. Something changed in kolourpaint (KDE). I installe Okular as suggested in this thread which I don't see what that has to do with the choice of printer for kolourpaint. Please fix this.

Those having print issues must snap install cups. It's not ideal but the only option right now because the auto install breaks other things.
