Bug: Krunner auto pasting clipboard content into search box. Expected behavior: Not past clipboard content (text) into search box. Operating System: Fedora Linux 41 KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 Kernel Version: 6.11 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland
Thank you for the bug report! I cannot reproduce this on master. How are you opening krunner? Can you try removing the shortcut assigned to the "Run command on clipboard contents" action in the KRunner entry of System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts? This would help us rule out accidental triggers of that function.

The problem is that you put a shitty option to paste the contents of the clipboard into the krunner search box, just fix that and don't try to get around it by making excuses.

It matters because pasting the clipboard is the whole point of the "Run command on clipboard contents" option. (This is also not a new function). Some users like having this available, and the KDE project generally does not make features dependent on whether you consider them "shitty". I am not trying to make excuses. This is a bug tracker, which is for narrowing down issues so they can be fixed. I just downloaded Fedora 41 Beta and ran it in a VM. I copied something into the clipboard, and did the following: - Press Alt+Space: krunner opens with an empty search box. - Press Alt+F2: krunner opens with an empty search box. - Launch "krunner" from a terminal: empty search box. - Press Alt-Shift-F2: krunner opens with the search box filled with the clipboard. This is all precisely as intended, and how it has worked for a good while. If you don't want to have the fourth option available, remove it in System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts. If this is not how it behaves for you, there may be a misconfiguration, corrupted settings, or bug in krunner or elsewhere in the stack. But for this we need to investigate, and to do that you could start by providing the information I requested before. I'll add another one: Please try with a new user account so we can see if it's a system-wide problem or an issue with user configuration.

The option 'Run command on clipboard contents' is marked by default. This has been confusing users. Ref.: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/xg5p7t/how_do_i_prevent_krunner_from_autopasting/

It's bound by default to Alt+Shift+F2, and has been for a long time. I just confirmed that this is also the case in stock Fedora 41. If you want empty krunner, use one of the three shortcuts that are pre-defined for this. (They're also much simpler to type: Alt-Space, Alt-F2, or the Search key on keyboards that have one).
