A quick test here shows no errors with the function in the maintenance tool to search for new items. Are you sure you have selected the right albums? Images may be locked because they are open in other programs? Without a DebugView log of a failed scan we cannot help here. Please post a DebugView log. https://www.digikam.org/contribute/ Maik
Created attachment 173786 [details] attachment-2622987-0.html I reverted to 8.4, but made no other changes. All of the photos were added as expected. Sorry there was no debug log, my antivirus blocked debugview. I have now fixed that. I will back up all Digikam files, reinstall 8.5 and run debugview, whilst searching for new images. What kind of anti-virus program do you use? DebugView has never been blocked here, it even comes from Microsoft. I suspect that your problem is related to the anti-virus program, it is clear that digiKam-8.4.0 has been downloaded more often than the test versions of digiKam-8.5.0, which is still new and unknown. Such things are taken into account when assessing unknown programs. We generally recommend excluding digiKam and ExifTool from anti-virus programs. Maik
In my office, we use the Microsoft antivirus solution and debug view is not blocked.
