The error appeared when clicking on the sidebar in Trash.

SUMMARY
I want to use Konqueror as my file manager and web browser.

So I changed the default apps in system settings. But when I returned to using konqueror, after making the changes in the system, I can no longer use protocols such as smb, trash, recent files, remote, admin, fonts,...

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In to System Settings
2. Goto Default apps
3. Change default web browser and default file manager to Konqueror
4. in to Konqueror
5. In sidebar clic en Trash, Network, ...
6. in location bar write: smb:/, remote:/ programs:/, ...

OBSERVED RESULT
An error window appeared. same as in the attachment. Then, when changing the default programs again, the error kept appearing.

EXPECTED RESULT
Use the protocols in Konqueror, in the same way that they can be used in Dolphin.

I tried with Konqueror 24.08 and it works correctly. The error message you posted doesn't seem to be related to protocols but to the fact that Konqueror can't open directories. Are you able to browse your file system from Konqueror?

I also observe the same problem in plazma 6, in kubuntu on plazma 5 it works

Could you please post the version of Konqueror and the version of the Qt libraries Konqueror uses in Plasma 6? You can find both of them in the Help/About Konqueror menu entry. The Qt version is in the "Components" tab of the dialog while the Konqueror version is at the top of the dialog. Can you please tell me whether you can successfully browse your file system using Konqueror?

I can't view the file system in konqueror. If you need tests, I am
completely at your service. Konqueror must not be allowed to die, it is one
of the best products in general

Just to be sure: do you have Dolphin installed? Konqueror relies on it to display both the filesystem and the protocols you mentioned. If you do, then this should either be a packaging problem or a configuration problem, because I can assure you that using Konqueror as file manager works correctly (while I don't use the remote:/, trash:/, ... protocols, I do use Konqueror as a file manager so I would have noticed it breaking). To find out if it is a configuration problem, could you please try creating a new user and checking whether it also has this problem?

It's sad, but I can't create a user from the GUI.

There should be a page in SystemSettings to do so (of course, you need to have administrator rights). In my distribution (Gentoo), you need both the SystemSettings package and the Plasma Workspace package. I don't know how it is in Ubuntu.

Could you tell me what Ubuntu version are you using? If I have time, I'll try creating a virtual machine with it installed and see whether Konqueror works correctly there.

do you change default app in System Settings?
Yes I'm able to browse my file system in konqueror
The protocols work fine in dolphin but not in konqueror

Hello
Yes, I have dolphin installed and with dolphin all the protocols work well.
I have created another user and repeated the process of changing default programs in system settings and the same problem was generated again in konqueror.
In konqueror I can access the file system, it's such a good program that I also want to use the protocols too.
The solution I found is not to make changes in system setting and so I can use the protocols in konqueror, however, I have the problem that the file system opens in dolphin because it is configured default.
Comment 11 Stefano Crocco 2024-09-24 20:16:35 UTC
Yes, I changed the defaults: I've had Konqueror as default file manager since forever. I just checked again with a new user, in case this issue only affected users who changed the defaults recently, but it still works.

Could you please tell me exactly which Ubuntu version are you using? I'll try to install it in a virtual machine and see whether I can reproduce the issue. Otherwise, I'm really out of ideas.

Hi
your konqueror works fine with protocols like: remote, smb, man, ..?

I tried with Kali on a virtual machine and it worked correctly. I noticed, however, that Kali still uses version of Konqueror which is quite old (from 2022) and it's still based on Qt 5. All my other comments refer to Konqueror 24.08 instead (you said that you had the same problem with Plasma 6, so I assumed it also meant you were using a recent Konqueror version, using Qt 6).

At this point, I'm afraid I can only advise you to ask for help in the Kali community or report a bug on the Kali website.

Hi

I'm going to update it on Plasma 6 and communicate again.
