Created attachment 173638 [details] Video of Described Behavior. A bit laggy as I captured it with spectacle instead of obs. SUMMARY Whenever I enter overview (meta+w or meta+g) and click to create a new desktop, it will appear for half a second and instantly disappear again. When I go to settings/ windows management/ virtual desktops, I can create them there but then when I hit apply, they all disappear. I have reset those settings to default, and I uninstalled plasma and reinstalled it. I am at a loss of what to do. I have updated multiple times as well to ensure that I am on the latest patch. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Click meta+w or meta+g and click the + button/ "create new virtual desktop". 2. Alternatively, go to settings, then window management, then virtual desktops. Click "Add Desktop" for as many as you want to create. OBSERVED RESULT 1. When using meta+w and meta+g, the new virtual desktop preview will appear for a split second and disappear. 2. When creating them in settings, the listed "Desktop 2", "Desktop 3", and so on will disappear as soon as "Apply" is clicked. 3. All the signs of the desktop being created are present for that fraction of a second. The pin icon in the window titlebar will appear, and the virtual desktop switcher will quickly flash into view on the taskbar. Then both will close. This seems to indicate that plasma is not failing to create the virtual desktop but that something is closing it right afterwards. EXPECTED RESULT When clicking any of the mentioned ways to create new virtual desktops, the new desktop(s) will appear and remain. They can be switched to, have applications appear on them, and remain permanent. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This just starting happening a few days ago. I did not register any change and had failed to realize that my previous virtual desktops had been deleted. I wish I could say it was due to an update or an application that I installed, but I cannot.sp
I did some more testing and discovered that when I go through the settings specifically, journalctl reports an issue. "kf.coreaddons: Expected JSON property "EnabledByDefault" in "/home/user/.local/share/kwin/effects/kwin4_effect_glitch/metadata.json" to be boolean, but it was a string". I have no idea what this means, but maybe it will help solve the issue.
Just kidding. I traced the file name in that error message and deleted it. That did nothing, so I just decided to start setting random settings to default and pray that it would work. Well, sure enough, I reset kwin scripts and that fixed the issue.
