Description Justin Zobel 2024-09-11 09:01:07 UTC
Was unsure of where to report this if Dolphin or kio-admin

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open dolphin
2. Go to / aka root device
3. Right-click on a blank space and select Open as Administrator

OBSERVED RESULT
New Dolphin window pops up with an inline warning banner saying "Unknown error" with no window contents other than a message saying "Loading cancelled"

EXPECTED RESULT
Normal Dolphin window with elevated privileges

All software built from git master on September 10

I have also hit this but only for the past week or so.

After clicking on open as Administrator, I enter the password, then it hangs for a long while, and then I got the empty window with the "Unknown error" as described in this bug report.

Once I got the red banner with "Unknown error" with nothing inside the window, I can still navigate back say up a directory and then I am in Admin mode inside dolphin (with the usual red warning banner). But then I also have issues trying to open a file as root, say a text file with Kate, when after entering the password it just hangs for a while before allowing me to edit.

Fedora is still on KDE Gears 24.08.0 so maybe this is somewhat solved if using 24.08.1.

Operating System: Fedora Linux 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
KDE Gears 24.08.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.10.10-200.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 30.7 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

I've noticed that this issue only occurs for me if I enter the password instead of fingerprint to authenticate.

In fact I first notice this problem because my finger print stopped working properly but I didn't realise it had anything to do with it. Now I have rerecorded my fingers so that finger print reading works reliably again and then when trying to the open as administrator in dolphin it works well when authenticating with my finger but I can reproduce this issue when authenticating by entering my password.
