Description Stephane Travostino 2024-09-10 13:12:18 UTC
SUMMARY

About 50% of the time I resume from sleep and unlock my PC, I am greeted to a black screen. Programs are still running, pressing the Win button shows the menu but the desktop is gone.

The workaround is to open Konsole, `killall plasmashell` and `plasmashell & disown` to start it back up again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to sleep
2. Resume from sleep

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Fedora Kinoite on an AMD RX 6800 XT, in Wayland mode. The journal is silent and there's no log of plasmashell failing.

Can you please provide the output of your journal by running this command, this might help the team identify the issue.

journalctl -b --user -u plasma-plasmashell

If you can also include the time of when it occurs so we can check in the log text around that area, thank you!
Comment 2 Stephane Travostino 2024-09-11 10:08:32 UTC
There literally is no log at all. For example, I just had the black screen (Wed 11 Sep 10:59:52 BST 2024) after resume from sleep since yesterday afternoon, and this is the last line:

Sep 10 11:11:24 tranquility systemd[5306]: plasma-plasmashell.service: Consumed 1min 4.150s CPU time.

Which is 23 hours ago, earlier than the system went to sleep. I will add the result of `journalctl -b --user -u plasma-plasmashell` as an attachment anyway.

No interesting information in the user log around crash time either, nor in the system log, apart from the fact that the system has resumed from sleep.

All the information requested was provided.
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2025-04-08 19:43:45 UTC
This might have been fixed in Plasma 6.3. Can you check again in Plasma 6.3 or later and see if this is still happening?

Thanks a lot!
