Hello,
At least on my machine (Artix Qt6) it puts focus into address-bar and select all text inside (so it can be overwritten), which I count as working properly.

Hi,

Yes, you are right, I made a mistake in the initial description of this bug report: I checked if the URL in the Address Bar gets focused if the "Open Location" menu entry is clicked, and yes, that URL indeed gets focused, here: the very short Falkon start URL that is shown in my current installation directly after having started Falkon.

I checked another browser if it has the same or similar working menu entry in the File menu (here: a pretty recent version of LibreWolf), and it appears that LibreWolf does not have such a menu entry. The same with the latest version of Firefox ESR.

Maybe the "Open Location" menu entry is not necessary in the Falkon browser.

Or is this menu entry maybe intended for opening certain URL's which use different protocols than http(s), like smb or sftp?

I checked the KDE Konqueror browser in KDE Plasma 5 and KDE Plasma 6 - the Konqueror browser has the same menu entry like Falkon, i. e. the File menu contains a menu entry called "Open location", and in Konqueror this menu entry, if clicked, behaves the same way as in Falkon: The ULR or the path which is displayed in the address bar gets focused, and if you want, you then could edit this URL or path.

The online documentation for Konqueror in KDE Plasma 5 has the following information about the topic "Konqueror the File Manager: Navigation":

"You can go directly to any folder by switching with [menu ]File โ†’ [menu entry] Open Location or Alt+O to the Location Bar and typing its path."

https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/konqueror/konqueror/navigation.html

Thus bug Report 492710 (this one here) does not describe an unwanted behavior in the Falkon browser. The behavior described here is not erroneous. Obviously Falkon has "inherited" the "Open location" menu entry in the File menu from Konqueror.

I will now close this bug report.
